In Light of History

36 X 48 Oil on Canvas,

The news moves too quickly to give the Israeli/Palestinean conflict the complex and extensive explanation of its situation that it needs. Thus, only those deeply affected by it spend the time researching the decades/centuries/millenia of its history.

In capturing a sliver in time, long forgotten by the masses, the snapshot painting depicts the 1993 handshake agreement for peace between Chairman of the PLO, Yassir Arafat, the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, and former US President Bill Clinton. It proclaims that there are more layers to this history than meet the eye.

Painted in rosy colors as a warm memory, the painting resembles a mirage,a fantasy, resminiscient of the calm before the storm, wishful hopes before the starker reality dashes them.
After this idyllic moment, the image shatters, the darker truth emerges. This painting serves as a living testament to the miscalculations of the past, and a deliberate study of the past for a better future.
