Taylor Swift Won’t Save Us

Taylor Swift’s new album dropped October 3. Over the last year, I had slowly become a soft Swiftie. I just liked her energy, I liked her chutzpah.

The final hostages were released October 11. Watching the emotional reunions, I was struck by my previous recent scrolling of Swift videos and music playlists. How absurdly different were they in depth and meaning.

I looked at the lyrics of her newest songs. In this time of such sorrow and need, one of the world’s most powerful and wealthiest woman chose to say nothing of importance. Chose to not discuss that which is crippling us.

Taylor Swift won’t, in fact, save us. We’ve got to be doing it ourselves.

This is the first piece I created since the hostage release. Looking back, I realize that all my previous images were solo images, with the exception of ICE, which is about imprisonment anyways. This is the first piece I created in two years that was about flamboyant movement together. A significant shifting in my own psyche and the collective Jewish psyche.
