On Giving Birth to Art

Let's be honest with ourselves,

artists of the soul-
Every morning we arise with dust within ourselves
muck
a new creature
below it all
nesting
hatching
growing
and we have a duty , a drive,
to dig through the dirt
and unravel the beautiful bag of treasure buried deep.
Our emotions alert us of this coming birth
our nerves sense the labor pains
as the toil of extraction
and we understand intuitively the need to just relax, lie low, and let it come.
Everyday, we undergo this process of inner rebirth
as that which lies below
screams unyieldingly to be released
to be fed.
So dig, fellow artists, dig and breathe and release.
It is our role, it is our mission, it is our bodies that house these treasures.
Dig, yell, release.
Repeat.
